The winegrowers’ association

This website has been created by the Côte-Rôtie winegrowers’ association.
Solidarity amongst wine growers is not something new. We know that a brotherhood of winegrowers existed in 1678, in the reign of Louis XIV. However the present association was founded in 1953.

The Côte-Rôtie association protects the fabulous Côte-Rôtie ‘terroir’ and defends its grape varieties. It carries out collective promotion of the wine and, amongst other things, organises professional wine-tastings and the Ampuis wine market. It regularly takes part in initiatives with its big brother, Côtes du Rhône.

In 1996, the winegrowers’ association and local business founded the Centurie de Probus, which is dedicated to promoting Côte-Rôtie wines and is the symbol of unity for the hundred or so winegrowers who work the vines. Its Gallo-Roman inspired costume reminds us that the Roman Emperor, Probus, who loved this outstanding wine, succeeded in uniting a number of Gallic tribes with a common aim: a passion for Côte-Rôtie and the development of the vineyards.
